ASSISTANTS JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Reports to: Site Coordinator

Purpose: To provide a safe caring environment for children  to experience 

enriching  social activities during their time in after-school.

 

Responsibilities:

  •  Supervise children at all times
  •  Assist with homework as needed to promote learning
  • Organize well planned, age appropriate activities with input from children
  • Maintain an organized, safe work/play environment
  • Share in cleaning responsibilities with fellow staff members
  • Actively engage children by joining in games, conversations, and activities
  • Demonstrate the ability to resolve child disciplinary issues and concerns
  • Take initiative to complete tasks needed to operate an efficient program
  • Problem solve and offer constructive solutions
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness
  • Maintain composure in tense situations
  • Use good judgement and make appropriate decisions within range of authority
  • Seek guidance from supervisors when necessary
  • Comply with policies, directions, and expectations
  • Complete required paperwork
  • Attend work regularly and on time in attire that is professional and appropriate for work
  • Comply with district procedures concerning the use of leave
  • Attend trainings or meetings as requested and required
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other staff, parents, and children
  • Display an enthusiastic, cheerful, positive attitude
  • Maintain staff and student confidentiality at all times
  • Communicate in a professional, effective manner, using age appropriate vocabulary when necessary
  • Follow correct protocol and chain of command in reporting problems
  • Follow requirements for Child Care Centers as outlined by NC DCDEE
  • Complete work assignments and responsibilities with minimal direction



Minimum Requirements:

  • Shall be 18 years of age 
  • High school diploma or equivalent and one year of child care experience or 2 years of experience as a licensed child care home operator or
  • Completion of a two year high school program of Early Childhood Education in Family and Consumer Sciences Education or
  • Twenty hours of training in child development, which shall include the North Carolina Early Childhood Credential coursework, within the first six months of employment in addition to the number of on-going training hours required
