Title: HVAC Apprentice/ Small equipment repair
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
 
 
HVAC Technician Apprentice is to perform HVAC operations, maintenance, and repair services.

As an HVAC Technician Apprentice, you will be primarily responsible for assisting HVAC Field Technicians in the installation and
repair of environmental control systems, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, control systems, pipe fitting, and
structural layouts. In this position, you will establish & maintain a positive relationship with customers, vendors, and
co-workers through effective oral and written communication skills via phone, computer, and face to face. Also be
able to adjust equipment and replace faulty parts, repair damaged equipment parts, clean, lubricate, and conduct
routine services on various maintenance and custodial equipment, as needed. 

 

Qualifications
 
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform
the work
Experience in areas related to the assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis
The employee must possess journeyman level of knowledge and expertise over a wide range of
mechanicals systems
EPA Universal certification required
The work will require lifting of equipment and tools on a regular basis
The employee in required to be able to lift 50 pounds and must be able to apply torque to a wrench or valve
handle The employee must possess a thorough knowledge of Electrical and Refrigeration theory

Additional 2 years related experience in facilities maintenance and mechanical systems repair
Proficiency in operating equipment such as forklift, pipe threading equipment, etc.

Responsibilities
 
HVAC Apprentice Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Assist with the installation of HVAC system on school facilities
Installing, maintaining, and repairing roof units for heating and air conditioning the units
Operate a variety of hand and power tools needed for HVAC installation
Cleaning and replacing the air ducts
Follow the instructions for picking, and delivering tools and materials, and supplies from the job site
Ensure the tool, material, and equipment are in good working condition
Complete the preventive maintenance on HVAC systems and related equipment
Coordinate with team members to provide excellent customer service
Ensure HVAC systems remain compliant with industry-standard and regulations
JOB’S OTHER DUTIES (10% of time):
Install, troubleshoot, repair and perform regular maintenance on commercial kitchen equipment
Identify and report items needing repair to the Maintenance Supervisor (doors, furniture, lights, plumbing,
etc.).
Maintain equipment assigned and used for housekeeping purposes.
Pick up and dispose of exterior trash and debris as observed.
PERFORM OTHER APPROPRIATE AND REASONABLY REQUIRED DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY THE
JOB’S SUPERVISOR. 

 

Physical Effort
 

Routine work involves significant bending, stretching and lifting
The employee will oftentimes be making repairs to pumps, and various equipment in these extreme
conditions
They will exercise constant visual attention while completing task
Carelessness while performing task including the use of power tools could result in the injuries to others
The employee is responsible to be aware of and respond to any unsafe practices in the workplace
The employee must perform as a trainer and mentor for fellow employees while performing manual labor of
their own
 
Requirements for Advancement - The employee must meet established criteria for advancement in pay and
assignment. Specific criteria for each employee will be contained in employee evaluation program documents.
Among these are: 
1. Obtaining additional licenses and/or certifications which have a direct application to the work assignment.
2. Demonstration of the skills necessary to successfully perform the functions of the next advancement
position.
