Electrician Assistant

Reports to: Director of Maintenance

 

NATURE OF WORK

The employee assists in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Work includes performing less technical tasks of the electrical trade under close supervision and in accordance with established procedures and safety standards. As experience is gained, the employee may assist with more technical electrical work under the direction of a licensed electrician. The employee resolves routine issues within established guidelines, with more complex problems referred to a supervisor. Errors in this work could result in injury and/or damage to property. Work is reviewed to ensure assigned tasks are completed satisfactorily. This employee receives direct supervision.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE AND SPECIFIC EXAMPLES OF WORK

· Assists in the installation of electrical fixtures, outlets, and switches.

· Assists with making wire connections under supervision.

· Cuts, threads, and bends conduit and assists in pulling wire through conduit.

· Assists in replacing defective wiring and electrical components.

· Performs minor repairs to electrical equipment under supervision.

· Uses and maintains tools and equipment of the electrical trade.

· Maintains a safe and orderly work area and follows established safety procedures.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

· Some knowledge of electrical systems, maintenance, and repair.

· Some knowledge of the practices, methods, and safety procedures of the electrical trade.

· Ability to use and care for tools and equipment of the electrical trade.

· Ability to understand and work from simple drawings or diagrams.

· Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

· Ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team.

 

SUGGESTED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Some experience or training in electrical work, building maintenance, or a related trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must meet any licensing or registration requirements applicable to electrician assistants or apprentices, as directed by the North Carolina Board of Electrical Examiners.
